What kinds of things can I talk about here?

This community is for professionals in education and related industries who are using the BECOME.ME program in their practice.  You can talk about:

  • how to teach a specific lesson

  • ideas about how to use BECOME.ME resources differently

  • any obstacles you’ve encountered with your cohort using BECOME.ME

  • observations or questions about careers education in general

  • feedback and suggestions about the program

  • the future of work and how it relates to education

  • or anything that relates to your practice as an educator who is motivated by the need to give your students the best possible tools to create their own futures

Before you ask - please make sure to search for a similar question. You can search questions by their title or tags. It’s also OK to answer your own question.  We like to encourage conversation, even on older posts.

What should I avoid?

While we really love to hear what everyone’s doing in their practice and share ideas for improving careers education across the world, we won’t accept any posts that are irrelevant to the purpose of the community.  For example:

  • purely chatty social posts, like “what’s everyone doing for New Year?”

  • personal attacks or comments about another member, or complaints about specific individuals, like “my boss is such a so-and-so, she won’t even consider ____”

  • off-site links with no context – these will be treated as spam and removed

And the following are serious breaches:

  • absolutely no discriminatory posts of any kind – we shouldn’t have to tell you what they are

  • no inflammatory language

We like to keep things friendly, but be aware that this is a professional forum and you should be conscious of your conduct at all times

What is karma?

When a question or answer is upvoted, the user who posted them will gain some points, which are called "karma points". These points serve as a rough measure of the community trust to him/her. Various moderation tasks are gradually assigned to the users based on those points.

For example, if you ask an interesting question or give a helpful answer, your input will be upvoted. On the other hand if the answer is misleading - it will be downvoted. Each vote in favour will generate 10 points, each vote against will subtract 10 points. There is a limit of 200 points that can be accumulated for a question or answer per day. The table given at the end explains reputation point requirements for each type of moderation task.

Why can other people edit my questions/answers?

Therefore questions and answers can be edited like wiki pages by experienced users of this site in order to improve the overall quality of the knowledge base content. Such privileges are granted based on user karma level: you will be able to do the same once your karma gets high enough.
