What's the best way to use the BECOME app? 

Use the BECOME.me student web app as a way to explore new job ideas and the huge variety of jobs in the world. It works best in conjunction with the teacher-led BECOME curriculum lessons.

The BECOME.me student web app is a dynamic app with 'exploding fireworks' of groups of occupations. Students click on occupation areas to see jobs and specialty areas of work within that occupation field.

For example, if a student clicks on Sport, they are offered not just athletes and competitors, but also coaches and scouts, umpires, refs and officials and other related workers, like sport team managers, sports medicine, player wellbeing and player transition development managers.The aim is to explore lots of these groups, and to notice career ideas that might be new to you.

TWO great things to do in the BECOME.me student web app: 

One great thing to do in the app is to use the EXPLORE, SEARCH and FILTER tools to find:

  • Careers you've never heard of before (We often hear students say, 'I didn't know that was a thing!' ... perfect.) Each item in the app is a job someone, somewhere is doing.

  • Careers that are related to jobs you have heard of, like player development managers in Sport.
  • Many (and we mean MANY) different types of specific careers, like all the kinds of designers, all the many kinds of nurses, and the many types of engineers.

Getting personal! Biodiversity-questions-WHY

The second great thing to do in the BECOME.me student web app is to collect lots of jobs in your own personal Log.

You do this by clicking Yes, Maybe or No next to a job.

Below it, record your thoughts. Why was a job interesting and what are my questions about it? What is different about what you found out compared to how this job is portrayed in movies? What's good and not so good about this job? What questions do you need to research?

Your thoughts and ideas stay in your BECOME Log in the app. Your Log is saved for you - you can even export it as a PDF or print it anytime.  

You can move and sort job ideas in your Log so you can keep track as your ideas develop. So if you saved 'Biodiversity Ecologist' but realised you would hate working outside a lot of the time, you might move that job from YES to MAYBE.

Considering lots of career ideas and why they do or don't look like a good fit for you is a big part of a mature approach to devising your own career path.
