What's the purpose of the BECOME.me student app?
The student web app, BECOME.me is designed to get students to explore as many jobs as possible. It also helps them collect a list of Yes, No and Maybe jobs, with notes.
The BECOME program is made up of three parts: the teacher-led curriculum lessons, the Insights Dashboard and the student web app, which is called BECOME.me.
The student web app is a moving dynamic app designed to explore widely. It includes groups of careers (organised by taxonomy) that students can click and move. Students can respond to job titles with a Yes, No or Maybe, and make notes on their reasons for this reaction, and questions to be explored. This info is saved in their personal Log.
We often refer to the BECOME.me student web app as an 'exploratorium' because it deliberately helps students to discover jobs they may never have heard of before.
Through challenges integral to BECOME's teacher-led lessons, students might find a job they have heard of (e.g. Soccer player), thenlook for all the people who work with them (Pro Sports curated bridge). Students might be asked to look for the grossest job, the job areas with the most different specialities (e.g. there are over 130 kinds of law practitioners)
In the app students can EXPLORE job groups and clusters, they can SEARCH for keywords (hint: a wildcard includes an asterisk like this: astro*) and they can FILTER by subject, such as Maths, Dance, and even Food.
